Jacquelyn Blythe HeltonJacquelyn Blythe HeltonI am a 29-year-old who would like to share my experiences regarding Duke medical services.

I first encountered Duke in January 2005 after trying to receive help elsewhere for a urology issue. At this time, I was in very poor health and knew I was getting worse. I came to the urology clinic for an evaluation and eventually had urology-related surgery in March 2005.

I will never forget how the staff at all levels treated me with the utmost respect and dignity. I was a partner in my own care and that meant a lot to me. At this time, I was a 25-year-old who was very sick and possibly facing cancer; all I really wanted was for someone to listen to me and try to help me. I didn't expect any miracles.

Dr. David Albala and the fellow physician, Dr. Neil Sherman, assured me that if Duke couldn't help me, then they would find somewhere that could. This hospital gave me my life back; I will never forget that.

I was recently referred to the Duke Pain Clinic for evaluation regarding
a chronic issue. I have been dealing with this particular issue, Guillian-Barre
syndrome, for almost the past seven years, and have been to various centers for
treatment.

In just two hours time at the Pain Clinic, I received answers and options that have never been offered to me elsewhere. I fully commend this organization as a whole for the great work that is done day in and day out. I now for the first time in almost seven years, have hope regarding my health.

Before I became ill in 2002, I was in nursing. I've worked in several specialty areas for a few organizations in NC, but I have not encountered a system and providers that are so dedicated to finding answers to problems that we all may face. I will be forever grateful.
