I awoke on July 12 of this year with unbearable pain in my left lower back hip area. Within 24 hours, the pain had relocated into my left knee area, and the left side of that leg was numb.
The pain was debilitating whether I tried to walk, stand, sit, or lay down.
During the course of the next two weeks, I sought treatment at two emergency rooms and one spine center, resulting in no relief for pain nor a referral to investigate the problem!
I was finally seen by Dr. Mariano at Hope Spine Center who referred me to Dr. Gottfried.
So finally, after three weeks of unbelievable suffering, I saw Dr. Gottfried with Duke University Hospital. He immediately put me on the surgery schedule while we waited for pending test results in order to speed up this agonizing process I was experiencing.
When Dr. Gottfried called with the test results, he didn't sugarcoat the news. He was completely honest informing me that my pinched nerve was in the worst possible position, and the success rates for similar surgeries to correct this problem had only a 20 percent success rate.
It was really not a difficult choice to make in that even a 20 percent improvement might allow me to at least sit up again!
Within a week I had the surgery and the results were absolutely amazing -- above and beyond all expectations!
Recovery was speedy and I'm so blessed to say that I have my life back with absolutely no pinched nerve pain or numbness!
My surgery was performed at Duke Raleigh Hospital and the staff showed me the same mercy and compassion as Dr. Gottfried.
I don't believe at all in coincidences; I think I ended up in Dr. Gottfried's care through divine intervention. But, I also believe that people make a choice every day about how they will treat others.
The thing that set Dr. Gottfried apart from all the other medical professionals that I was seen by was that he had mercy and compassion for my suffering and was determined to relieve it as best he could.
I have nothing but praise and admiration for Dr. Gottfried and his staff for this philosophy in treating patients.
As far as I'm concerned, if you need a neurosurgeon, you won't find any better than Dr. Gottfried!
