Duke University Hospital Ranked Tenth By U.S.News & World Report

For the 21st year in a row, U.S.News & World Report has ranked Duke University Hospital as one of the top 10 hospitals in the nation.

In this year's edition of the best hospitals, Duke ranked 10th overall and was in the top 10 in seven of the 16 specialties measured.

Rankings for individual specialties are:

  • Cancer #12
  • Endocrinology #27
  • Ear, Nose, and Throat #24
  • Gastroenterology #18
  • Geriatrics #6
  • Gynecology #7
  • Heart/Heart Surgery #9
  • Kidney Disease #12
  • Neurology and Neurosurgery #11
  • Ophthalmology #7
  • Orthopaedics #6
  • Psychiatry #12
  • Respiratory Disease/Pulmonary #6
  • Rheumatology #12
  • Urology #7

Duke was also recognized as one of fourteen Honor Roll hospitals, which required being ranked in at least six specialty areas. Duke is the only hospital in North Carolina and the Southeast to make the Honor Roll.

The top 10 hospitals in the U.S.News & World Report's rankings were, respectively: Johns Hopkins Hospital, the Mayo Clinic, Massachusetts General Hospital, Cleveland Clinic, UCLA Medical Center, New York-Presbyterian University Hospital, University of California-San Francisco, Barnes-Jewish Hospital/Washington University, Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, and Duke University Medical Center.
