Duke University Medical Center was once again named to
U.S.News & World Report’s Honor Roll of best hospitals in
the United States.
The rankings were published in the July 18, 2005 issue of
the magazine. This is the 16th year that the magazine has
compiled the annual rankings of America’s Best Hospitals.
Duke was named eighth in that list for 2005.
Each year when U.S News identifies the top medical centers
in 17 specialties, only a handful are singled out for the Honor
Roll. All of the 16 medical centers named to the Honor Roll had
to demonstrate a breadth of excellence by achieving a high
ranking in no fewer than six specialties.
The rankings of 176 medical centers named in this year’s
edition highlight the 17 specialties. Duke was ranked in 16 of
these:
The hospitals in the top eight overall rankings were
respectively: Johns Hopkins Hospital, the Mayo Clinic,
Massachusetts General Hospital, Cleveland Clinic, UCLA Medical
Center, Barnes-Jewish Hospital , New York-Presbyterian Hospital
and Duke.
