Best Doctors 2011-2012 Award Winners
In 2011, more than 130 Duke doctors were recognized as Top Doctors by U.S.News & World Report. Doctors across the country nominated their peers as those who they believe are the most worthy of referral -- and we are proud that Duke physicians across many specialties have made the list.
The Duke physicians recognized by U.S. News are listed below. Each ranks each as among the top 10 percent of U.S. physicians in their specialty.
These Duke physicians work closely with their colleagues in multidisciplinary teams to provide sophisticated, compassionate, and patient-centered care.
Malcolm S. Branch, MD
William E. Garrett Jr., MD, PhD
Sridharan Gururangan, MRCP (UK)
Leonard Prosnitz, MD
Philip J. Walther, MD, PhD
The list was compiled by U.S. News and Castle Connolly Medical, Ltd, a New York City-based company.
Each year, Castle Connolly surveys thousands of physicians and other health care professionals online, through direct mail, and by phone, and asks them to identify excellent doctors in every specialty in their region and throughout the nation.
The participating doctors can identify other doctors as their most trusted colleagues, but cannot nominate themselves.
A physician-led research team carefully reviews the credentials of every physician being considered for inclusion -- scrutinizing medical education, training, hospital appointments, administrative posts, professional achievements, and malpractice and disciplinary history.
