What is covered in the “Welcome to Medicare” visit?

The “Welcome to Medicare” visit includes:

  • Review of health, education, and counseling about the preventive services covered by Medicare
  • Establishing a schedule for Medicare's screening and preventive services over the next five to 10 years
  • Review of a medical and social history
  • Review of functional ability and level of safety
  • Physical exam
  • Voluntary advanced-care planning
  • EKG with interpretation and report
  • Hearing assessment

What does the “Welcome to Medicare” visit cost?

You pay nothing out of pocket for this visit.

Do I need to have my “Welcome to Medicare” visit before my annual wellness visit?

You don't have to have a “Welcome to Medicare” visit before getting an annual wellness visit, but if you choose to have the “Welcome to Medicare” visit, you'll have to wait 12 months before you can have your first annual wellness visit.

How often can I have my "Welcome to Medicare" visit?

Your "Welcome to Medicare" visit is only covered once within the first 12 months of being enrolled with Medicare Part B.

How do I schedule my “Welcome to Medicare” visit?

To schedule your “Welcome to Medicare” visit, call your primary care provider’s office.

What if I do not have a Duke Medicine primary care provider? 

Call 888-ASK-DUKE (888-275-3853) to for assistance with finding a Duke Medicine primary care provider.
