LC Industries Donates $12m to Duke Eye Center
Did you know your Duke Eye Center doctors are also constantly working to find cures for blinding eye diseases such as glaucoma and macular degeneration?
You may not know this, but your Duke Eye Center doctor isn’t just a doctor. Our doctors are highly trained “clinician scientists” who team with Eye Center scientists in the Albert Eye Research Institute (AERI) to form research groups attempting to understand glaucoma, macular degeneration, corneal and retinal degenerations, and children’s eye diseases.
Practicing at Duke provides our clinician scientists with access to some of the most advanced research tools in the world, thus providing you, our patients, with the latest technologies and treatments for these very serious eye diseases that all currently do not have any specific “curative” therapies.
At the Duke Eye Center and AERI we conduct basic research into the causes of such diseases with the goal of translating new discoveries into new “curative” therapies. With the proposed new eye clinical building and clinical research center, we hope to have sufficient space to bring these new curative therapies to our patients. Our goal is not only to deliver the very latest and best eye care to our patients, but to discover new curative therapies through our basic and clinical research programs.
To strive to discover cures for potentially blinding eye diseases, we need your help!
