Dr. Robert Machemer, chairman emeritus of the Duke Eye Center, died of cancer at age 76 on December 23, 2009, in Durham, North Carolina. He was a gifted surgeon, ardent researcher, and beloved colleague who revolutionized surgery for retinal diseases.
Thursday, April 29, a reception and open house will be held at the Albert Eye Research Institute at the Duke Eye Center.
Friday, April 30, a scientific meeting remembering Robert Machemer, “Progress Comes From Doing The Unconventional,” will be held at the Durham Marriott Convention Center.
Friends and colleagues from around the world are welcome to join us for the reception, the memorial celebration of Machemer’s life, and the scientific meeting, looking at unconventional approaches in future retinal therapy.
