Getting in Shape After Baby

Bring baby and practice movements to regain core stability and strength. This 6 week series of classes is targeted to new moms who are just beginning to exercise after pregnancy. Moms should be at least 6 weeks but not greater than 3 months postpartum when beginning class. If you experienced a cesarean birth, please bring medical clearance from your physician to exercise. Join us immediately afterward for “Motherhood: The New Reality Show”.

Motherhood: The New Reality Show

Bring the baby, pack a lunch and join other new moms as we brainstorm tips on surviving motherhood, offer suggestions for transitioning back to work, and share resources for staying at home fulltime. Class targeted to moms who are 3-12 weeks post delivery, however, any new mother is welcome

Coping with the Stress of Illness: A Self-Care Workshop

This eight-week workshop gives patients and caregivers an opportunity to learn a number of mind-body skills to manage the stress related to medical illness.

Low Carb/Low-Glycemic Diet Support Group

Support group for those who are currently using a low-glycemic or low-carbohydrate approach to diet (along with exercise and stress management) to stabilize blood sugar, improve cardiovascular health, and lose weight. While participants/professionals share information on managing this diet approach, this is a peer-to-peer support group format.

Breastfeeding Class

A class focusing on the decision to breastfeed including information on: advantages and barriers to breastfeeding; how to establish breastfeeding routines; techniques to accomplish satisfactory breastfeeding; how to recognize and avoid potential challenges. Mental Confusion: Normal Aging or Dementia?

Duke Raleigh Hospital offers a Pre-Operative Orthopaedic Replacement Surgery Class for all patients and family members. The class covers what you can expect before, during and after surgery.

This 4 class series (May 6,13,20,27, 2008) will include information on: signs of labor, stages of labor, comfort measures, pain management options, role of the coach, breathing techniques, vaginal and cesarean births, coping with unexpected outcomes, and hospital routines. Expectant parents are encouraged to complete the series between 33-36 weeks of pregnancy. Register early by calling 919-416-DUKE (919-416-3853). Fee - $80.
