Infant and Child Pediatric Life Support

Participants will receive an introduction to infant and child safety strategies along with being trained by the American Heart Friends and Family CPR standards for Infant and Child CPR. $35 for an individual/$50 for a couple.

Getting in Shape After Baby

A four class series. In class one (April 3), explore importance of incorporating safe postnatal exercises into your daily mommy routine (for moms only).
In classes two – four (April 10, 24 and May 1) bring baby and practice movements to regain core stability and strength. It is recommended that you be at least 6 weeks postpartum. A written consent to exercise from your physician's office is required.

Coping with Change and Losses Support Group

Hardening of the Arteries:" New Treatments for an Aging Disease

Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) affects more than 70million people per year. It is a disease processes affecting mostly adults over the age of 70. Risk factors include Diabetes, high cholesterol, smoking, age, obesity and coronary artery disease. PAD, or "hardening of the arteries", is often over looked and patients are frequently told that their symptoms are due to "aging". It can be detected by a simple test using blood pressure cuffs on the legs. PAD is a disease primarily characterized by difficulty walking or healing wounds. While not fatal by itself, it is often associated with more serious health problems like diabetes and coronary artery disease and may lead to limb loss. New technology and research in this field offers less invasive ways to treat PAD. Duke Medical Center offers many options for treatment and management including new research trials looking at growing new blood vessels in the legs.
