DukeWELL (formerly Duke Prospective Health) proudly sponsors a free monthly seminar series, presented by Duke Integrative Medicine that address such topics as stress, healthy eating, meditation, yoga, acupuncture, massage and more.
Meditation is something that no one can do for you. You have to do it for yourself.
Long a key component of faith and spiritual traditions, meditation has over the past
30 years or so, emerged as a topic of extraordinary interest in Western medicine
and psychology. This talk will introduce participants to key concepts related to
meditation and health, and specifi cally to mindfulness.
Mindfulness is a natural human capacity for present-moment centered awareness,
and like other human capacities, mindfulness can be explicitly cultivated and
practiced using a variety of meditation methods. The presentation will include
reference to some exciting current scientifi c fi ndings related to mindfulness and
participants will have the opportunity for a direct experience of mindfulness through
brief practice sessions during the presentation.
