Pre-Operative Orthopaedic Class

Duke Raleigh Hospital offers a Pre-Operative Orthopaedic Surgery Class for all patients and family members. The class covers what you can expect before, during and after joint and spine surgery.
We will provide you with helpful information, useful tips and answer any and all of your questions.
You will meet your nurse, case manager, physical therapist and the occupational therapist that will be working with you.
This class occurs every Thursday.
PLEASE DISCUSS THIS CLASS WITH YOUR DOCTOR. YOU OR YOUR DOCTOR CAN SCHEDULE THE CLASS.

Motherhood: The New Reality Show

Bring the baby, pack a lunch and join other new moms as we brainstorm tips on infant care and surviving motherhood. We will discuss coping strategies for the developmental milestones of infants, provide lactation support, offer suggestions for transitioning back to work and share resources for staying home full-time.
This class/support group is targeted to moms who are 2 – 12 weeks post-delivery, however, any new mother is welcome as often as you like. Classes are facilitated by an RN/Lactation Consultant. Often Duke Pediatricians/Residents are able to join us. One-time $10 fee for all the sessions a mom chooses to attend.
Genitourinary Cancers Support Group

This support group is for patients of genitourinary cancers and their family members. Meetings are held on the second Monday of every month.
Look Good...Feel Better

Thoracic Oncology Support Group

This support group is for patients and families coping with lung cancer, head and neck cancers, or sarcoma. Meetings are held every Tuesday.
Art Therapy Group

Breast Cancer Support Group

Duke Raleigh Cancer Center is offering a breast cancer support group designed for any breast cancer patient. The group provides a place where patients can meet others going through similar experiences and can gain support and friendship. This is an informal group that meets the 2nd Tuesday night each month from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Cancer and Diabetes Support Group

Learn how managing diabetes can help reduce risk of infection, prevent cancer treatment interruptions, and improve quality of life. Meetings are held every Wednesday in the 0 Level Conference Room of the Duke Cancer Center from 11:00-12:00.
Guided Relaxation
12:30 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Enjoy deep relaxation, stress relief and benefits of meditation without prior experience. When practiced regularly, these activities lead to a reduction in your everyday stress levels and boost in your feelings of joy and serenity. These guided meditations are located in the Quiet Room on the 0 Level of the Duke Cancer Center. Sessions are held on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month.
Adult ADHD Skills Group

Adults with ADHD are invited to join us for a skills group where they will learn valuable tools for living with ADHD. Topics covered include materials organization, prioritizing and planning, time management, problem solving, reducing distractions, and mindfulness.
Baby Care Class

A hands-on class for soon-to-be parents or caregivers coving the basics of newborn care/appearance through the first month after birth. Includes: comfort techniques, swaddling, diapering, bathing. DAD/SUPPORT PERSON ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND.
Tai Chi
3:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Tai Chi (TIE-CHEE) uses flowing movements performed in a slow, focused manner and is accompanied by deep breathing. Instructor John Hillson, RN, ONC, CHPN will guide you through this graceful self-paced form of exercise that is now used for stress reduction and for a variety of other health conditions. These sessions are located in the Quiet Room on the 0 Level of the Cancer Center and are held on the 2nd and forth Thursday of the month. No registration is needed.
