Motherhood: The New Reality Show

Bring the baby, pack a lunch and join other new moms as we brainstorm tips on infant care and surviving motherhood. We will discuss coping strategies for the developmental milestones of infants, provide lactation support, offer suggestions for transitioning back to work and share resources for staying home full-time.
This class/support group is targeted to moms who are 2 – 12 weeks post-delivery, however, any new mother is welcome as often as you like. Classes are facilitated by an RN/Lactation Consultant. Often Duke Pediatricians/Residents are able to join us. One-time $10 fee for all the sessions a mom chooses to attend.
Prepared Childbirth Class Series

Educators trained as Lamaze certified childbirth instructors (LCCE) teach all classes at Teer House. The series of classes includes information and practice sessions on: signs and stages of labor; role of the dad/support person; vaginal and cesarean births; comfort measures including relaxation and breathing techniques; pain management options; coping with unexpected outcomes; hospital routines. This 4 class series will be Mondays, April 1,8,15,& 22. Expectant parents are encouraged to complete the series between their 30-37th week.
We recommend you attend the hospital tour prior to beginning this series since some dates may conflict. Register early, space is limited.

Infant/Child CPR and Safety

An introduction to infant and child safety strategies along with CPR training according to the American Heart Association Friends and Family CPR standards. This class does NOT provide participants with certification cards. For your comfort, we recommend taking this class before week 34 or after the birth of your baby.
Cancer Caregiver Support Group

Caregivers of cancer patients are invited to join our support group. This group meets on the first and third Wednesday of every month.
Mind-Body Approaches to Coping with Cancer
3:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Patients with cancer are invited to participate in a class to learn mind-body approaches to coping with cancer. This group meets on the first and third Thursday of the month.
Integrative Coping Skills Group

This integrative therapy group uses CBT principles and yoga-based practices to help children (ages 8-12) who experience somatic complaints related to stress, anxiety, or other types of psychological distress.
Breastfeeding Class

6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
Learn important strategies for establishing effective breastfeeding; positioning; recognizing possible challenges and avoiding potential barriers to breastfeeding. A short discussion related to pumping is included, but this is covered in-depth in Motherhood group. DAD/SUPPORT PERSON ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND.
Cancer Pro Bono Legal Program: Clinic

Duke Law School and the North Carolina Bar Association with additional support from the North Carolina Society of Healthcare Attorneys, are partnering to offer the Cancer Pro Bono Legal Program. Students working under the supervision of licensed attorneys will be available on the 1st and 3rd Fridays of the month from 10am - 1pm to help cancer patients create power of attorney documents and advance directives.
