Motherhood: The New Reality Show

Bring the baby, pack a lunch and join other new moms as we brainstorm tips on infant care and surviving motherhood. We will discuss coping strategies for the developmental milestones of infants, provide lactation support, offer suggestions for transitioning back to work and share resources for staying home full-time.
This class/support group is targeted to moms who are 2 – 12 weeks post-delivery, however, any new mother is welcome as often as you like. Classes are facilitated by an RN/Lactation Consultant. Often Duke Pediatricians/Residents are able to join us. One-time $10 fee for all the sessions a mom chooses to attend.
Genitourinary Cancers Support Group

This support group is for patients of genitourinary cancers and their family members. Meetings are held on the second Monday of every month.
Art Therapy Group

Cancer patients are invited to join us for an art therapy group. We meet on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month.
Infant Massage Class Series

This 2-part hands-on series (Tuesdays, February 12 & 19) introduces parents to the basics of infant massage, which helps parents bond with baby, aid in digestion, etc. Infants ages 1 month – 4 months may participate. All classes are taught by Certified Infant Massage Instructors. “Baby’s First Touch” massage book and massage oil provided.
Please dress baby in 2-piece (top and bottom) outfit and bring an extra blanket with the usual gear in your baby bag.

Prepared Childbirth Class Series

Educators trained as Lamaze certified childbirth instructors (LCCE) teach all classes at Teer House. The series of classes includes information and practice sessions on: signs and stages of labor; role of the dad/support person; vaginal and cesarean births; comfort measures including relaxation and breathing techniques; pain management options; coping with unexpected outcomes; hospital routines. This 4 class series will be Tuesday/Thursday February 12, 14, 19, and 21. Expectant parents are encouraged to complete the series by their 34-37th week. We recommend you attend the hospital tour prior to beginning this series since some dates may conflict. Register early, space is limited.
Breast Cancer Support Group

Duke Raleigh Cancer Center is offering a breast cancer support group designed for any breast cancer patient. The group provides a place where patients can meet others going through similar experiences and can gain support and friendship. This is an informal group that meets the 2nd Tuesday night each month from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

TOPS Group: Teen Organization, Planning, and Study Skills Group

Eight weekly sessions for high school students ages 14-18 teach strategies for time management, organizing school materials, planning ahead for tests and projects,and avoiding distractions and procrastination.
Two parent sessions provide ways for parents to support teens' progress in group and study skills at home.
