Duke University Medical Center is conducting a study to see if the investigational drug methotrexate is effective in treating ulcerative colitis (UC).

The word “investigational” means the study drug, methotrexate, is still being tested in research studies and is not approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of UC.

Eligibility Criteria

To participate in this study, you must be an adult (between the ages of 18-70) who meet the following criteria:

  • Has active UC
  • Screening laboratory values, test, and physical exam within acceptable ranges

Duration

This study has two phases: the induction phase (the beginning phase of this study to induce remission) which lasts 16 weeks, and the maintenance phase (the part of the study to maintain remission) which will last 32 weeks.

You will participate in the study for up to a total of 48 weeks (12 months).
