This study looks at the differences in von Willebrand disease (VWD) factor levels during the postpartum period (up to six weeks after delivery) between women with and without von Willebrand disease.

We will access how quickly these levels actually drop in both groups of women and how this correlates with the actual amount of bleeding after delivery.

Eligibility

Participants who have von Willebrand disease must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Be in the third trimester of gestation
  • Be planning to deliver at Duke

Participants who do not have von Willebrand disease must:

  • Not have a diagnosis of any type bleeding disorder
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Be in the third trimester of gestation
  • Be planning to deliver at Duke

Participants in the two groups will be matched based on age (within five years) and race.

Requirements

  • Blood draws, some of which can be combined with blood work required by your obstetrician. Additional blood work will be paid for by the sponsor.
  • Keeping a daily diary of blood loss until six weeks postpartum.

Compensation

Participants may receive $300 upon satisfactory completion of study.
