This study investigates the cognitive and metabolic risk factors for the development of anorexia nervosa (AN).

We will explore these risk factors via a controlled laboratory investigation with children between the ages of eight and 12 who have at least one parent with a current or former diagnosis of AN.

This may result in a more comprehensive understanding of gene-environment interactions that contribute to the onset of this illness in vulnerable individuals.

Study Requirements

Children will undergo diagnostic assessments, cognitive testing, and a nutritional and physical activity assessment. The study will involve three sessions, one of which will include an oral glucose tolerance test. Two of the sessions will be conducted one month apart.

This study is being conducted in conjunction with the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.

Compensation

Participants will be reimbursed $6 for parking.

Participants will receive $210 for completion of the study.
