This study is the ENLIGHTEN study of exercise and diet for cognitive function.

Eligibility Requirements

Adults older than age 55 with either heart disease or two or more risk factors for heart disease (such as, high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, obesity, smoking, etc.) and mild problems in concentration and memory are eligible to participate in our study.

Participants will be randomized to one of four groups:

  • Aerobic exercise
  • Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet
  • Both exercise and DASH diet
  • Health education control group

The study will last for six months.

Measures of vascular and heart health, as well as cognitive function, will be measured at baseline and again following treatment.
