This study is designed to test a new implantable hearing device that is a hybrid cochlear implant and hearing aid.
It is specifically designed for people with profound hearing loss who are still getting some benefit from their hearing aids. This device is surgically implanted into the inner ear (cochlea) to restore hearing in the high frequencies. It also has a hearing aid portion that amplifies low frequency hearing.
Additional information about the device can be found on the MED-EL EOS Clinical Trial Web site.
This device requires an outpatient surgery and several follow-up appointments for programming the device.
This is for adults over 18 and under age 70.
The device and surgery are paid for by insurance.
