The purpose of this clinical trial is to evaluate the carotid stent vs. surgery trial by studying individuals with carotid stenosis.
Eligibility Requirements
- Have severe carotid artery disease
- Have not experienced symptoms related to your carotid artery disease in the last 180 days
- Able to undergo either an interventional stenting or surgical procedure
You must not:
- Have had symptoms in the last 180 days
- Be at high risk for surgery
- Have certain conditions that might confound the results of the study
- Be over 80 years of age
Study Requirements
This study will require that participants have:
- A medical history review
- Physical exams
- A blood test
- Duplex ultrasound tests
- X-ray of the blood vessels in the neck
- Randomization to carotid stenting or carotid arteries surgery
- Up to five years of follow-ups
