The study is for asthmatics between 18 and 65 and is looking to determine if opening the bronchioles with heat will improve asthma symptoms by decreasing the bronchiole thickness. Patients that could benefit from this study are those whose asthma is so severe that they are still symptomatic despite being managed on conventional state-of-the-art therapy of high doses of inhaled corticosteroids and long-acting beta-agonists. This study does include 3 bronchoscopies but does have corresponding compensation at each step of the study. Follow-up includes yearly visits for 5 years and quarterly phone calls. This is an FDA approved procedure that the company wants to show long term effectiveness.
