Duke researchers at the Sarah W. Stedman Nutrition & Metabolism Center are seeking to examine the mechanisms by which the DASH diet lowers blood pressure.
The DASH dietary pattern has been proven repeatedly to lower blood pressure quickly and effectively among people with stage I hypertension or pre-hypertension. It is rich in fruits, vegetables, low-fat dairy products, and dietary fiber, includes whole grains, and is reduced in total saturated fats, cholesterol, meats, and sugar-sweetened products.
Participants must be at least 22 years old, diagnosed with pre-hypertension or stage I hypertension, non-diabetic, and willing to consume study foods for three weeks.
Upon completion of the study, participants will be eligible for up to $300 for time and travel reimbursement.
