Age Related Eye Disease Study (AREDS2)

This research study is looking to see whether the nutritional supplements lutein, zeaxanthin, and two nutrients found in fish oil DHA and EPA will slow the development of advanced age-related macular degeneration.

You can be in AREDS2 if you have:

  • Large drusen in both eyes or large drusen in one eye and advanced AMD in the other. (Dursen are yellow spots found in the back of the eye, seen only by your eye doctor.)
  • Willingness to have your eyes examined and photographed each year for a least five years.
  • Willingness to take at least three nutritional pills daily for at least five years.

All study supplements and daily multivitamins will be provided at no charge to participants.
