A research study, "Eating Disorder Treatment Study: Research Study on Adolescent Eating Disorders, Helping Parents Help Their Children," is being held at Duke.
- Are you concerned about your child’s recent weight loss?
- Has your child become more picky with his or her eating?
- Is your child extremely worried about his or her weight?
- Do you worry that your child is exercising too much or throwing up after meals?
Your child may be struggling with an eating disorder and may qualify for a new treatment study. The study compares two therapy strategies that give parents tools to manage their child’s illness. Your child will receive medical and nutritional management in additon to weekly therapy sessions.
Your family may qualify if:
- Your child is between the ages of 10-18 years
- Your child is found to have an eating disorder (based on our interviews)
- Your child does not require hospitalization
- Your child is not currently abusing substances
- Parents and child are willing to attend six months of sessions and complete assessment measures at the end of the sessions and every three months for a total of 12 months.
