Pets play an important role in many people’s lives and are often considered members of the family. Pets can offer companionship, affection, topics for conversation, and opportunities for reminiscing.

Because of these many benefits, we offer an animal-assisted therapy program called Pets at Duke (PAD). Learn more about the benefits of animal-assisted therapy at Duke.

Participating dogs have completed the AKC's Canine Good Citizen Program and are 'therapy-certified'. Therapy dogs reside with their owner and are additionally tested on-site. Meet our therapy dogs.

Pets at Duke is offered biweekly in adult and pediatric oncology and in the radiation oncology clinic. Weekly visits are offered in the community at Caring House and Duke inpatient hospice facilities (Meadowlands and Hock Family Pavilion).
