The Duke Cancer Patient Support Program offers a wide range of services for cancer patients and their families, including those listed below.

For more information about any of these programs, contact our office at 919-684-4497 or cancersupport@duke.edu.

Daffodil Print to Honor Strength and Resilience

To recognize patients who complete chemotherapy treatment, we proudly present them with a beautiful framed photographic print, bordered by an inspirational quote from Albert Camus.

“In the midst of winter, I finally learned that there was in me an invincible summer” –Albert Camus

The daffodil photograph was taken by Marti Bennett, a former Duke Cancer Institute patient and DCPSP volunteer, and is a celebration of achievement and optimism.

Healing Expressions Art Kits

Healing Expressions volunteers pass out free art kits created for your enjoyment in the outpatient cancer clinic waiting areas. The types of art kits range from drawing to knitting.

You may choose to work on these kits individually or you can work with a Healing Expressions volunteer.

Kids Corner

In the DCPSP lobby, we have an area called Kids Corner. We have toys, coloring books, puzzles, movies, and a flat-screen TV.

If you have children with you while you’re in the cancer clinics, we invite you to use this space as you wait for your appointment. Children have more room to play, and can feel comfortable laughing and talking, as this space is separate from the regular clinic waiting areas and is meant for kids!

Please note that the DCPSP does not have child care services, so children must be accompanied by a family member at all times.

Movies While You Wait

The DCPSP has a selection of DVD movies that can be viewed in our lobby on our flat-screen TV. If you’d prefer, we have portable DVD players that can be borrowed to view movies while you wait for your appointment or during your treatment. We have kid-friendly movies, too!

To view a movie or borrow a portable DVD player, please contact our office at 919-684-4497 or cancersupport@duke.edu.

We would appreciate additions to our DVD library. If you would like to donate a movie or portable DVD player, please contact our office at 919-684-4497. For updated information please see our wish list.
