Duke's Cancer Patient Education Program uses a multimedia approach to assist Duke Cancer Institute patients and their families in finding information about their disease, understanding their options, making decisions, managing the effects of cancer and its treatment, and advocating for themselves.

Partnering with your health care team, information is provided throughout all phases of a cancer journey, including prevention, early detection, disease specific cancers, treatments, side effects, research and clinical trials, complementary therapies, support, emotional care, children's concerns, and end-of-life care

Duke Cancer Patient Education includes the following resources for patients:

  • Resource Center offers books, DVDs, CDs, periodicals, brochures, magazines, and other written and online information for cancer patients and their families
  • Disease-specific information has been compiled into helpful patient education notebooks, which are provided for patients during treatment
  • Duke Cancer Patient Education offers a wide variety of classes for patients, their families, and caregivers
  • A variety of self care guides devoted to information on specific types of cancer, side effects, coping strategies, family issues, nutrition questions, and sexuality concerns
