Any change in the skin that appears abnormal can be a sign of skin cancer. The major symptoms are:
- New growth, lump, or bump
- Lump or bump that gets bigger
- Sore that doesn’t heal within two months
Squamous cell cancers can appear as:
- Firm, red bump
- Flat lesion that is scaly and crusty
Basal cell cancers can resemble:
- Pearly, waxy bump
- Flat, skin-colored or brown lesion or scar
Melanoma can appear as:
- Large, brownish spot with darker speckles
- Mole that changes size or color, bleeds, or changes in texture
- Small spot that has irregular borders and has parts that vary in colors, including red, white, blue, and blue-black
- Dark spots on the palms of the hands, soles of the feet, fingertips, toes, or on mucous membranes (in the mouth, nose, vagina, or anus)
