The Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke is a nationally recognized leader in the treatment of pediatric brain tumors.

The pediatric neuro-oncology program at the Duke Cancer Institute treats children and adolescents with all forms of brain tumors. Some of the common tumors treated by our specialists include:

  • Medulloblastoma
  • Ependymoma
  • Astrocytoma
  • Glioblastoma
  • Germ cell tumor
  • Brainstem glioma

Patients are treated by an experienced team of pediatric neuro-oncologists and pediatric neurosurgeons. Consultation with radiation and medical oncologists specializing in pediatric cancer is also available as needed.

Our dedicated social workers, psychologists, and child life team are important members of the care team, providing support services and resources to help patients and families cope with treatment process.

Expanding Treatment Through Research

The Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke offers more clinical trials than most treatment centers in the world. Seventy-five percent of Duke’s pediatric brain tumor patients are enrolled in clinical trials, offering them access to the most advanced treatments available.

Duke is one of 10 medical centers involved in the National Cancer Institute Pediatric Brain Tumor Consortium, which evaluates promising new treatments to help speed the development of innovative, technically challenging therapies.
