Patients from all over the United States and other countries come to the Duke Cancer Institute to receive care.

Often, patients and their families will need to be in Durham for an extended period of time during treatment. These resources are available to help make your time in Durham more manageable and cost-effective.

Ronald McDonald House (RMH): RMH specializes in providing temporary housing for pediatric patients receiving treatment at Duke and their families. Your social worker or patient resource manager must make a referral to the house for your first stay, but after this you can make your own reservations. For more information contact your social worker, PRM, or RMH at 919-286-9305.

Hotels: There are several area hotels convenient to the medical center that offer reduced rates.

Airfare assistance: There are several organizations that offer free air transportation for patients receiving treatment. Please contact your social worker if you would like more information about these options.

Local transportation: For free transportation around the Duke University Medical Center, please contact Security Alert Van Service at 919-684-2020. Patients who are Medicaid participants are entitled to free transportation to medical appointments. Please contact your Medicaid worker to make arrangements.
