Lymphoma forms when cancerous cells develop in the lymphatic system, which circulates white blood cells called lymphocytes around the body to protect against infection and cancer. There are two general types of lymphoma:

  • Hodgkin lymphomas are a specific type of lymphomas with a high potential for cure.
  • Non-Hodgkin lymphomas, which are more common than Hodgkin lymphomas, occur when the lymphatic system produces abnormal lymphocytes. As there are over 30 subtypes, treatment and prognosis vary based on the subtype.
