Counseling sessions at Duke Cancer Institute’s Hereditary Cancer Clinic may include discussions about genetic testing for cancer predisposition, which can be facilitated through the clinic.
Many of the patients who come to the Hereditary Cancer Clinic for genetic testing fall into one of two groups:
The most common genetic tests discussed at the Hereditary Cancer Clinic test for predisposition to breast, colon, and ovarian cancer, although testing related to rarer forms of cancer is also available. The Hereditary Cancer Institute can facilitate testing for any cancer predisposition genes for which a test has been developed.
Individuals may also be given the opportunity to be involved in research projects.
