Duke Hepatopancreato-Biliary (HPB) Diseases Service offers consultation by regionally and nationally recognized experts, and includes a multidisciplinary approach in collaboration with Duke surgery, radiology, and oncology services. 

Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) are particular areas of expertise within the HPB service, with physicians performing approximately 2,000 procedures each year.

Additional tests used to diagnose and stage pancreatic cancer at Duke include:

  • Physical exam and history
  • Ultrasound exam
  • Blood tests, including a carcinoembryonic (CEA) assay, a CA 19-9 assay, and other blood chemistry studies.
  • Computed tomography scan
  • Magnetic resonance imaging
  • Biopsy
  • Laparoscopy
  • Percutaneous transhepatic cholangiography (PTC)
