The pancreatic cancer program at the Duke Cancer Institute includes a knowledgeable team of leading medical experts who specialize in the management and treatment of this disease.

Our multidisciplinary team is not only focused on standard of care treatments but also involved in innovative research in the realm of pancreatic cancer. Our hope is to provide optimal care to patients with this disease as well as to provide them with hope of more effective therapies.

Specific diseases we treat include newly diagnosed pancreatic adenocarcinoma, metastatic pancreatic adenocarcinoma, neuroendocrine cancer, as well as premalignant conditions including intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm and pancreatic cysts.

Treatment Focused on Patient Needs

We recognize how challenging it can be to go through cancer treatments, uncertain of how they will affect you. For this reason, we offer you treatment plans with choices that we believe are the best for you.

The Duke Cancer Institute offers the most advanced diagnostic testing procedures to appropriately identify the stage of the cancer and evaluate malignancies to map the most effective treatment plan.

Depending on your situation, your treatment may include a combination of:

  • Surgery including pancreaticoduodenectomy (the Whipple procedure) and distal pancreatectomy
  • Innovative radiation therapy techniques featuring state-of-the-art imaging technology to precisely pinpoint tumors and minimize negative effects
  • Medical therapy, including both standard drug regimens and the newest chemotherapy agents
