Share

Colorectal cancer is the growth of cancerous cells that begins in the colon or rectum. Colon cancer and rectal cancer are similar in many ways, but the treatments for them are slightly different. Learn more about colorectal cancer.

The Duke Cancer Institute’s multidisciplinary colorectal cancer team draws upon decades of training and experience treating complex and unusual cases to create the most effective treatment plan for each patient.

Tests and Treatments

Treatment for colorectal cancer is determined by the type of cancer and its stage and grade. The Duke Cancer Institute offers comprehensive care for all types of colorectal cancer, including:

  • Prevention through screenings, including the less invasive "virtual colonoscopy”
  • Integration of the newest chemotherapeutic agents to achieve a better response
  • Innovative radiation techniques, including the only intra-operative radiation facility in the region
  • High volumes of major colorectal cancer surgical procedures, performed by board-certified colorectal surgeons
