Partners In Caring (PIC), a component of the Duke University
Pastoral Services Department, partners with the Duke Adult
Infectious Disease (ID) Clinic, the Duke Health Inequalities
Program (HIP), and many faith-based, community-based, and local
government-supported agencies to provide substance abuse and
HIV prevention programs. PIC provides spiritual care in the ID
Clinic and technical assistance for HIV programs.
PIC has received funding from The Duke Endowment, the Kate
B. Reynolds Charitable Trust, the U.S. Department of Health and
Human Services, the North Carolina Conference of the United
Methodist Church, the North Carolina HIV/STD Prevention and
Care Branch, the Wake County Substance Abuse Program, and
private and corporate donors.
PIC collaborates with various departments at Duke
University, including the Adult ID Clinic and HIP, to provide
care and education for those infected with and affected by
HIV/AIDS and substance abuse.
PIC’s goal is to
relieve social and spiritual isolation among families touched
by HIV/AIDS and substance abuse, their communities, and social
and religious organizations throughout the Carolinas. PIC has
worked with more than 500 churches in the Carolinas to promote
understanding about serving PLWHA and to eliminate the stigma
and discrimination associated with HIV and substance abuse.
As PIC continues the journey of finding ways to care for
people living with HIV/AIDS and addictions, we invite you to
join us by checking out our menu of programs.
