Our staff of female cardiologists provides each patient with
personalized information about her risk profile and ways to
reduce the development or progression of the disease.
Cardiovascular risk evaluations include a lipid profile and
a fasting blood glucose.
Patients are encouraged to exercise, follow a healthy diet,
lose weight if necessary, quit smoking, and deal more
effectively with stress.
The clinic offers a Web-based walking club and smoking
cessation classes as well as periodic risk-factor screening
sessions in the community using the Framingham Point Score
Estimate of 10-Year Risk for Women.
We follow the American Heart Association's evidence-based
guidelines for cardiovascular disease prevention in women,
offering treatments and therapies proven beneficial for heart
disease, including:
- Statins
- Beta-blockers
- ACE inhibitors
- Aspirin
- Diagnostic cardiac catheterization
- Angioplasty
- Cardiac bypass surgery
In addition, one of our cardiologists, Karen P. Alexander,
MD, specializes in the care of geriatric patients.
