Treatments

Our staff of female cardiologists provides each patient with personalized information about her risk profile and ways to reduce the development or progression of the disease.

Cardiovascular risk evaluations include a lipid profile and a fasting blood glucose.

Patients are encouraged to exercise, follow a healthy diet, lose weight if necessary, quit smoking, and deal more effectively with stress.

The clinic offers a Web-based walking club and smoking cessation classes as well as periodic risk-factor screening sessions in the community using the Framingham Point Score Estimate of 10-Year Risk for Women.

We follow the American Heart Association's evidence-based guidelines for cardiovascular disease prevention in women, offering treatments and therapies proven beneficial for heart disease, including:

  • Statins
  • Beta-blockers
  • ACE inhibitors
  • Aspirin
  • Diagnostic cardiac catheterization
  • Angioplasty
  • Cardiac bypass surgery

In addition, one of our cardiologists, Karen P. Alexander, MD, specializes in the care of geriatric patients.
