Aortic Aneurysms

Duke offers the full spectrum of therapies for aortic aneurysms -- dangerous widening of the large artery that carries blood from the heart to the rest of the body. As blood flow stretches an aneurysm, it can rupture, leading to internal bleeding.

Treatments include extensive endovascular options (a large aortic stent to cover the aneurysm) and an experienced surgical team for open repair.

Duke offers treatments for:

  • Abdominal aortic aneurysms
  • Thoracic and thoracoabdominal aneurysms

Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms

After endovascular repair, Duke uses a cutting-edge repair surveillance technique (the Cardio-MEMS device) that decreases or eliminates the continual radiation exposure that results from annual computed tomography (CT) scanning.

Thoracic and Thoracoabdominal Aneurysms

Duke’s experienced, multidisciplinary team provides the full-range of endovascular and open surgical treatments to patients with thoracic and thoracoabdominal aneurysms.

Treatments include:

  • Endovascular thoracic aneurysm repair
  • Endovascular aneurysm repair with debranching procedures
  • Open surgery to repair thoracoabdominal aneurysm

During open thoracoabdominal aneurysm repair, Duke’s specialists take every step possible to avoid complications. Surgery is performed with a dedicated anesthesia team, peri-operative visceral perfusion, and spinal drainage.
