Appointments are available Monday through Friday with the
exception of holidays. It is in your best interest to schedule
your appointment four to six weeks prior to departure. However,
we will attempt to accommodate short-notice requests for
emergency travel.
Please arrive 15 minutes early. Bring a trip-specific
itinerary and your medical information (diagnoses, medications,
and immunizations dates). To streamline your admission process,
please print out a copy of
the Travel Clinic patient history form. Fill out the
section that pertains to you and bring it with you to your
appointment.
We offer three types of appointments for travelers age 16
and older:
- New, for travelers who have never used our service
before
- Return, for travelers who are established patients but
need additional services or patient education
- Injection, for travelers who need one or more
predetermined injection
Appointments may be made at either location by
contacting:
- Local: 919-416-3853
- Toll-free: 888-275-3853
- Fax: 919-361-9725
Hours

Severe Weather

during severe weather, please call 919-572-0769 for recorded
information on the clinic’s operational status.
Insurance
Please note that Duke Travel Clinic services are often not
reimbursed under insurance plans. You must be prepared to pay
for services at the time they are rendered by cash, check, or
charge. A copy of the charges will be provided at checkout. A
statement will also be mailed for those that wish to pursue
reimbursement from their carrier or employer. Duke employees
traveling on business should bring a department procurement
card.
Consultation Preparation
There are no restrictions for medications, food, beverages,
or activities prior to or after your appointment. In fact, we
encourage you to eat, drink, and take your prescribed
medications before you come.
Please bring your completed patient assessment form if you
have one, along with your international certificate of vaccine
(yellow card). Otherwise bring your medical information
(diagnoses, allergies, medications, and previously completed
immunizations with dates).
In warm weather, please bring a small insulated container
with an ice pack, as one of our vaccines may be
self-administered by you at home.
There are no physical exams, laboratory studies, or x-rays
included in the consultation. The components of the appointment
are:
- A review of your medical history
- Risk assessment
- General and specific itinerary-based patient
education
- The administration of desired immunizations
- Trip-specific prescriptions
To save time at your appointment you may wish to review the
vaccine information statements below. The section explains
information about each vaccine you may be considering for your
trip.
For the consideration of other travelers and the staff, we
ask that you please come prepared, arrive 15 minutes prior to
your appointment time, and leave small children at home.
We look forward to seeing you soon and thank you for
choosing Duke for your health care needs.
Vaccine Information Statements
Vaccine information statements are provided by the Centers
for Disease Control (CDC) for patients who are considering
being vaccinated to protect against one or more diseases.
You are able to review the selected statements prior to
being vaccinated and direct questions to the provider before
being immunized. To avoid having to make hesitant decisions
during your appointment, you may wish to review the statements
in advance at the CDC’s Web
site.
