The respected team of clinicians and scientists who comprise
Duke’s Division of Rheumatology and Immunology remains on the
leading edge of patient care, research, and education -- and we
are proud to have been named an Autoimmunity Center of
Excellence by the National Institutes of Health.
Each year, Duke rheumatologists and immunologists
collaborate with other specialists throughout Duke to expertly
evaluate, counsel, and treat some 15,000 patients suffering
from a wide variety of inflammatory conditions that frequently
require cross-disciplinary care.
These conditions -- which range from arthritis, bursitis,
and lupus to dermatomyositis, vasculitis, and Cogan's syndrome
-- are often painful and incapacitating over time, and our
clinicians are sensitive to that. We strive to help patients
achieve their optimal quality of life by incorporating the most
current, evidence-based therapies into their care.
Duke is also recognized leader in rheumatology and
immunology research. Our scientists are involved in ongoing
studies aimed at better understanding the mechanisms behind
inflammatory and autoimmune disorders -- as well as in clinical
trials that provide valuable insight into the development of
more effective treatments.
