Duke's Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine delivers the most advanced evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment services available to patients suffering from a wide variety of lung diseases and respiratory ailments.
Expert critical care -- for seriously ill patients with acute respiratory distress and respiratory failure -- is integrated into all of our clinical services, and is always available to patients who need it.
Our programs are focused on the most pressing issues we face, including acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), advanced lung disease, the role of lung transplantation and surgery, lung injury following high-dose chemotherapy and bone marrow transplantation, lung cancer diagnosis and treatment, mechanisms of airway hyperresponsiveness in patients with asthma, and physiologic processes that control oxygen delivery.
In addition to delivering outstanding clinical care, the division strives -- through our medical education and research efforts -- to ask and answer questions about important issues in our specialty. Our overarching goal is to explore new and more effective ways of managing lung and respiratory disorders.
