Duke Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences offers a number of
specialized programs for children and adolescents with mental
health concerns. These programs include:
Adolescent Substance Use Treatment Programs
– We offer screening, assessment, and individualized alcohol
and drug treatment to adolescents and their families through
our structured outpatient program. Our goal is to promote a
drug-free lifestyle with education, group and family

Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
Program – This program provides comprehensive
diagnostic evaluations for children, adolescents and adults,
including psycho-educational testing for learning disorders.
Parent and child behavior management groups and child coping
skills groups are available. A summer treatment program for
middle school students is available to enhance academic
learning strategies, group cooperation and other skills for
school success. The Duke ADHD program offers direct in-school
consultation to teachers and other educational professionals.

Biofeedback Services -- Our specialists use
the most advanced technology to help referred patients 12 and
older gain control over their physiological responses to stress
and pain, and master deep muscle relaxation. The program uses
behavioral management techniques to help people suffering from
conditions such as headaches, anxiety disorders, cardiovascular
conditions, chronic pain, stress and Type A behavior. Patients
typically are referred to us after traditional treatment

Eating Disorders Clinic – Our
multidisciplinary team of specialists evaluates, diagnoses, and
treats people of all ages who suffer from eating disorders that
include:
- Anorexia nervosa
- Binge eating disorder
- Bulimia nervosa
- Eating disorders not otherwise specified

Family Care Program (FCP) – The FCP works in partnership with the
Durham County Mental Health Center to serve children of
addicted Durham County women – and to help those women overcome

Family Studies Program and Clinic – Our
team of mental health experts is trained in treating families,
and specialized in issues such as:
- Couples counseling
- Family therapy
- Parent education for parents of children and adolescents
with behavioral problems
- General therapy for enhancing family communication and
problem solving

Medication Management Program – The Pediatric Psychopharmacology Service conducts diagnostic interviews and clinics for treating pediatric behavioral and emotional problems with medication. Details about Child Psychiatry Programs at Duke Children's
OCD and Tourette’s Disorder Program – Using the most advanced tools, the specialists within this program diagnose, evaluate and treat patients of all ages. Details about Child Psychiatry Programs at Duke Children's
Pediatric Neuropsychology Program – This program conducts neuropsychological, neurocognitive, behavioral and emotional assessments of children and adolescents with medical, developmental and learning disorders that may result from disease and/or treatment regimens. Preschool Program – This program provides comprehensive diagnostic evaluations of preschool children, ages three to five, suspected of having disruptive, mood, anxiety, or other emotional or behavioral disorders. Details about Child Psychiatry Programs at Duke Children's
Program in Child Affective (Mood) and Anxiety Disorders – This program provides diagnostic evaluations and an array of ongoing treatments for children and adolescents, including individual, evidence-based psychological therapies. Medication management is offered through the Duke Pediatric Psychopharmacology Service. Opportunities for Research Participation
