Parent and child behavior management groups and child coping skills groups are available. A summer treatment program for middle school students is available to enhance academic learning strategies, group cooperation, and other skills for school success. ECT is sometimes used to treat patients suffering from severe affective (mood) disorders and medical illnesses for which pharmacological approaches have been ineffective or unfeasible. ECT uses brief, controlled electrical currents to produce seizures in the brain. These seizures appear to cause biochemical changes which can reduce or eliminate symptoms.
