The Duke Prostate Center (DPC) is dedicated to providing state-of-the-art, compassionate care to men with prostate cancer.

The center is also committed to discovering newer and better methods for detecting, treating, and preventing prostate cancer.

Our multidisciplinary team is composed of nationally and internationally recognized surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, basic scientists, and other medical professionals.

All of our providers work together to deliver outstanding care and support to men and their families.

Prostate Cancer Facts

  • Prostate cancer is the most common type of cancer found in American men, other than skin cancer.
  • Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in men.
  • The American Cancer Society estimated that there would be about 218,890 new cases of prostate cancer in the United States in 2007. About 27,050 men died of this disease.
  • While one man in six will get prostate cancer during his lifetime, only one man in 34 will die of this disease.
  • African-American men are more likely to have prostate cancer and more likely to die of it than are white or Asian men. The reasons for this are still not known.
  • Although men of any age can get prostate cancer, it is found most often in men over the age of 50. Of men with prostate cancer, most are over age 65.
