Duke's orthopaedic trauma team treats injuries to the bones, joints, spine, arms, and legs, as well as their associated nerves, muscles, and other soft tissues.
From standard procedures to innovative treatments pioneered at Duke, our physicians' knowledge and experience is hard to match.
The latest techniques to repair shattered bones are offered. These include:
- Vascularized bone transplants: Crushed bone is replaced with bone from the fibula, one of the bones of the lower leg
- Minimally invasive approaches: Smaller incisions mean that more surrounding tissue is preserved, which increases the amount of nourishing blood to reach bone and aid recovery
In addition, Duke surgeons have years of experience perfecting the microsurgical techniques for reattaching limbs as well as transplanting living tissue from one part of the body to another, for reconstructive purposes.
You may find additional information about treatments pertaining to trauma patients in the Emergency Services section of DukeHealth.org.
