Program Description: Hospitality is defined as the
action of making individuals feel comfortable and welcomed. The
Hospitality Cart is a volunteer-led program that embraces this
definition.
Volunteers go door-to-door offering opportunities for
socialization, nourishment, and activities for structuring free
time to patients with cancer and their families.
Units served: Adult Oncology Medical Units 9100 and
9300, and Adult Bone Marrow Transplant 9200. Patients with
cancer being treated on other units may also be served on a
referral basis.
Volunteer Requirements
Application Process: An application must first be
submitted. A background check is required. Volunteer Service’s
requirements including JCAHO safety training and necessary
health/TB screening must be met.
Commitment: A minimum of six months commitment is
required.
Hours: Hours are flexible, but two hours per week
minimum is requested.
Physical Requirements: Volunteers should have
adequate vision, hearing, speech, and mobility to engage with
minimal to no difficulty. No lifting over 10 pounds is
required.
Dress Code: Please dress in clean, neat, and casual
clothing. Sleeveless shirts, above the knee shorts, and
open-toed shoes are asked to be avoided. Moderate amounts of
time are spent on your feet, so comfortable shoes are
recommended. Please avoid wearing any perfumes or heavy
cologne.
