Radiation Therapy

Radiation therapy is an option for selected patients at every stage of lung cancer and may be combined with chemotherapy in a multimodality attack.

Duke’s radiation oncology team uses advanced treatment techniques to minimize the risk of serious side effects, such as three-dimensional conformal radiation.

By combining 3-D imaging techniques with a computerized program, our radiation oncologists can define the size and shape of the tumor more precisely than ever, enabling them to deliver more targeted radiation therapy.

The technique enables doctors to limit damage to normal surrounding tissue or organs while increasing the amount of radiation delivered to lung cancer tumors.
