Health Coaching

Health coaching provides an opportunity for you to collaborate with an experienced partner to carve out just the kind of life you want to live.

A coach is like a personal trainer for your whole self. Health coaching effectively motivates behavior change through a structured, supportive partnership between you and coach. The coach helps facilitate insights and clarity through inquiry and personal discovery.

How Health Coaching Helps Change Behavior

  • Health coaches work with the whole person. They make the time to listen to your concerns and ask powerful questions to help motivate you in your desire to make changes.

  • The coaches support you in tracking your weekly progress and holds you accountable for your commitments.
  • The coach helps create and sustain the mindset needed to make lifestyle changes.
  • You and your coach work in partnership to identify obstacles to change and create strategies for forward movement.
  • Coaching is not about criticism or judgment. Criticism has no place in developing personal awareness and working to achieve goals. Just think about it: when you feel judged -- either by yourself or another -- you get tense and close down to any information you may learn.
  • Coaches provide additional resources for making healthy behavior changes.

Our Coaching Services

You and your coach will have an initial session on the phone or in person. The initial session will last up to one hour.

If this session is on the phone, you will call your coach at the agreed upon time. If it is in person, you and your coach will meet at the agreed upon site on the Duke Center for Living Campus.

For the initial session, your coach will guide you in the creation of a Personal Health Plan. This plan involves developing your health vision as well as choosing both long term goals and SMART action steps designed to reach your long-term goals.

For follow-up sessions, our trained coaches use innovative and practical strategies to help you clarify what you want, explore creative options, enhance personal accountability, and take action for your health.

Follow-up sessions are conducted over the phone. Each call lasts about 30 minutes.

Health Coaching Fees

The fee for the initial coaching session is $90. Follow-up is provided on a retainer basis.

A monthly fee of $280 includes up to four 30-minute telephone coaching sessions plus e-mail support.

A fee of $520 will retain two months of service and covers up to eight 30-minute coaching sessions.

If retaining services for three months at a time, a fee of $660 will cover up to twelve 30-minute sessions.
