Karen Ziegler, RN, FNP

Reiki Master
Spiritual Counselor

Karen Ziegler is a registered nurse and a family nurse practitioner. She has been practicing Reiki since 1989 and is a Reiki master and a mindfulness meditation teacher. Ziegler has been learning about spiritual healing in various traditions for nearly 30 years.

Before becoming a nurse, Ziegler was a parish minister for 10 years and then developed interfaith pastoral care programs for people with AIDS in New York City. As an ordained minister, she served as senior pastor of Metropolitan Community Church of New York from 1978 to 1988. Her experiences with pastoral counseling convinced her that everyone has a genius for their own healing inside them and that spiritual healing is the foundation of mental, emotional, and physical health.

In addition to her work at Duke Integrative Medicine, she currently teaches in the practice course at Duke University School of Medicine and serves on the medical staff of the Duke Diet & Fitness Center. She graduated from Union Theological Seminary (MDiv) in 1979, New York Theological Seminary (DMin) in 1984, Columbia University School of Nursing (BSN) in 1994, and Duke University School of Nursing (MSN) in 1998. In 2006, she completed a two-year fellowship in integrative medicine at the University of Arizona College of Medicine. She is a Bravewell Fellow.
