We offer a basic nutrition education class entitled "Food for
Thought: Nutrition for Optimal Health." The class covers basic
nutritional topics including calories, portions, fat gram budgeting,
and labeling. You leave class with an individual nutrition plan with
guidelines for how much and when to eat. This class is free for our
Premium Members and available for a minimal fee to others.
For members and non-members, we also offer individual nutrition consultations with a registered dietitian. These sessions explore more in-depth issues about food and nutrition.
Our consultations are especially helpful for people with weight problems or medical issues including diabetes, cancer, heart disease, hypertension, or for those who just want to improve their diet. Our dietitians also counsel clients on how to improve athletic performance through a dietary program.
We also offer RMR (resting metabolic rate) testing and consultations. This test can determine the exact number of calories you need based on your metabolism. From this number, we can interpret your total energy needs with activity and exercise, giving you a complete picture of how to develop your daily food plan. The RMR is helpful if you are frustrated with your weight loss progress since it gives you your most accurate calorie needs for weight control.
Nutrition counseling is available Monday through Friday. To find out more about our nutrition services, inquire about membership, or schedule an appointment, call 919-660-6818 or e-mail hfcinfo@dukefitness.org. For questions about insurance coverage, call 919-660-6603.This service is available at:
